September 9 - 11 Los Angeles - Nadi - Auckland - Tauranga

We leave LA arrive in Auckland (via Nadi, Fiji) on the 11th. Have lost a full day. Body clock very messed up now. Get our bags and hire a car. Meet a nice policeman that shows us where our car is. Turns out to be a Brit. Jen drive to Tauranga, I am amazed she can operate a vehicle, even though its automatic - I feel like shit, despite a coffee. After getting out of the traffic in Auckland, suddenly all the cars disappear and we are driving almost alone on beautiful scenic roads. It reminds me of home and I find it uncanny how familiar everything looks.

Take our time and visit Wahei beach - our very first beach stop. Theres no one there. Get to Tauranga. Get into town and get beeped a few times. Wonder why and then realise why. It's NZ road rules. Very strange. They have this crazy trun right rule. Here are two example of this silly rule;

Check into our hostel and take a walk around the town. It's a very nice seaside town, but too tired to appreciate anything. End up in bed at 8pm.

OK so whats New Zealand all about then....

September 8 London - Los Angeles

Very long flight, I don't particularly like flying. Screaming children, and I never got my veggie meal...10 hours seems like 100. Get to LA where poor Jen has been waiting for me for over an hour. We look like shit. We get a shuttle to our Hollywood hotel. We are driving at night and everything looks strange. Is this America? It looks kind of poor. Get stuck on the bus with 3 Texan girls, they are typically stupid. They don't know what a youth hostel is. They probably don't even know where New Zealand is. I wonder how they would cope in Europe.

Our hotel is what shall we say 'basic'. It looks like a dolls house and seems to be run by 2 French people who seem to just sit and watch TV all day and smoke fags. We are starving and find this typically American diner after getting a dodgy taxi which seems to be the hotel manager's best mate who is a Mexican or something, have a beer and some quesdillas. YUMMY and cheap, no wonder Americans are all obese! Also decide to have another beer, and get asked for ID. Looks like a student bar and everyone eyeing us up. After a beer feel tired and go to the hotel to sleep. At least its warm here, we have double beds and a good nights rest. Dreadfully thinking about the rest of the journey tomorrow.

The next morning we do the 'LA' thing, visit Chinese Manns theatre, see the Hollywood stars (on the pavement) and shop. Shopping is fun. We see the Hollywood sign and find a really nice place for breakfast. The coffee is the most amazing I have had EVER.

THE END OF THE WORLD

Hello again - I've been really crap at organising this holiday. In fact I've left Jen to do a lot of the work. Thats what happens when you've got so much on your plate to sort out. Anyway, I have a Rough Guide to New Zealand, which is way too much to contemplate, and after work I am going to go shopping for bits and pieces that I will need. I have to pack my rucksack this weekend, so I can get an idea about how much crap and non-essentials I will have to leave behind. Last time I was on holiday with Jenny we were in Canada and we had a great time. So I am really looking forward to this one.
